About
Ask the right questions. Listen. Listen. Listen. Offer solutions. Follow-up.
Be fair and take responsibility, but hold people accountable.
Spend 10% of your time planning strategy. The remaining 90% is tactical execution.
Be nice, but wise. Being a fool only hurts yourself and those who matter to you.
Getting buy-in is mostly in the presentation.
There is always a solution, even if it means to do nothing.
Sometimes it is best to say no to a customer or investor. They will cost you more in the end.
Those are some of the big ideas I learned to date. Maybe not so big to many, and they seem obvious, but they need to be said.
My career has so far spanned multiple industries, company sizes, geographies, and multiple schools. I’ve experienced success and failure, happiness and grief, and worked with a wide assortment of people (some you would even call characters). You can read more about it on the Bio page.
After several years as a consultant, some of my clients suggested I write a book about working with investors and companies seeking capital. Instead of becoming a full-time writer, I am using this forum to express my ideas. By keeping myself involved with business, I can write about what is current and affects you today.
Here, we will be discussing the challenges and solutions for both entrepreneurs and the entreprenurial manager: attracting investors, growing the business, managing an entrepreneurial career, and other factors that would affect these decisions.
I will try to post one letter Monday through Friday.
If you have questions or specific topics you would like me to address, you can post them here or email me at steve [at] vcplan [dot] com. I have a Linked-In profile (see sidebar).
If you would like to talk to me. My availability is on my calendar.
